The Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous (AA/NA) community has been a steadfast presence at the Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, holding its weekly Wednesday meetings in the church fellowship hall for over 30 years.
To combat homelessness in partnership with community organizations whose missions are to prevent homelessness, the community impact program provides financial assistance to individuals and families facing eviction from their homes.
(The Community Impact Program is Funded By The Greater Hartford Gives Foundation in Hartford, CT)
Metropolitan’s Ministry of Kindness Benevolence Fund, established under the A.M.E. Zion Church Denomination in 1880, collects in-house offerings to assist members and the surrounding community with basic needs such as rent, food, baby supplies, utilities, heating oil, and other essential services.
In partnership with the Hartford Larrabee Fund Association, a coalition of 15 faith-based congregations, Metropolitan helps distribute emergency assistance to the above populations living in Hartford, CT, including rent and mortgage arrears, security deposits, first month’s rent, and other essential services as needed.
(The Larrabee Fund Association was established in 1864 to administer funds from the estate of Major Charles Larrabee for the relief and benefit of sick, poor, and suffering women of Hartford and for other sick and poor persons.)
Metropolitan’s Missionary Departments collaborates with local organizations to provide essential resources to the community as needed or at the request of non-profit organizations that serve underserved populations. This support includes assistance for men’s homeless shelters, aid for individuals experiencing homelessness, and programs designed to help formerly homeless families rebuild their lives. Additionally, our missionaries supports initiatives aimed at assisting women in their recovery after incarceration.
