Dr. Harvill is a son of the Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Hartford, Connecticut, where he delivered his trial sermon and was received by the church’s Quarterly Conference. Serving as the assistant to the pastor, his father in the ministry, the late Rev. Raymond E. Price, Dr. Harvill was actively involved in all aspects of the church's ministries and served with a loving, compassionate, and encouraging spirit.
Dr. Harvill served as the Pastor of Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Middletown, Connecticut, for over 30 years. For a period of those 30 years, the Cross Street church was located on a small plot of land on Cross Street in Middletown. Under Dr. Harvill’s guidance, the church grew spiritually, numerically, and economically. This growth culminated in the construction of a stunning edifice at 440 West Street in Middletown, Connecticut, in 2007. The new edifice stands out as a beautifully designed spiritual sanctuary. It is known for its striking visual appeal and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors often praise its aesthetic charm, noting its serene, inviting space for worship and community gatherings. With its impressive architecture, the church serves not only as a place of worship but also as a landmark capturing the attention of locals and visitors alike.
While pastoring Cross Street Church, among many other initiatives, Dr. Harvill organized and developed a successful Back-to-School Community Day, an annual event that provides school supplies and accessories to over 300 Middletown children. The event is supported by the Mayor of Middletown, the Superintendent of Schools, social service agencies, community organizations, and businesses. Dr. Harvill also established the Cross Street Training & Academic Center, Inc., an after-school program offering academic tutoring for children, healthcare education, and workforce training. Dr. Harvill's humanitarian endeavors have earned him numerous awards and commendations.
In 2022, Dr. Harvill was appointed Presiding Elder of the Hartford District of the New England Annual Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church by Bishop Dennis V. Proctor. Dr. Harvill's love for people, which flowed to his congregation and community during his pastoral ministry at Cross Street, continues to flow to the Hartford District Family.Dr. Harvill leads the Hartford District with the same passion and excellence that he demonstrated at Cross Street. He inspires the Hartford District Family to stretch our faith to lift the standard of ministry in our service to the church and to God by actively advancing God’s purposes on earth, using our unique gifts, time, and resources to serve others, and to reflect the character of Christ while spreading the Gospel.
